Full Day TRAINSPOTTING at Chesterfield Station January 2026 #railway
📍 Filmed between 08:00 – 15:10
From the first train of the morning to the final freight of the afternoon, this was a full-scale railway marathon at Chesterfield Station. High-speed Cross Country Voyagers, regional Sprinters, modern Class 195 units, heavy freight flows and rare locomotive movements combined to deliver one of the busiest and most varied rail sessions captured here — proving just how alive the UK railway really is.
Welcome back to Trains & Freight Diaries for a full-day railway capture at Chesterfield Station, filmed on Tuesday 20th January 2026, covering a continuous seven-hour session from 0800 until 1510.
Situated on a key cross-country route, Chesterfield provided relentless action throughout the day, with passenger services, regional DMUs, modern intercity workings and heavy freight movements all passing through at regular intervals.
Passenger operations were dominated by Cross Country Voyagers, with multiple Class 220, 221 and 222 sets recorded throughout the session. Highlights included workings such as 1S33, 1V46, 1S35, 1V48, 1S37, 1S39, 1S43 and 1S47, showcasing the constant north–south and east–west flows through the station.
Regional traffic added even more variety, featuring Class 158s, Class 170s and the modern Class 195 fleet, working busy services including 1R58, 1L06, 1R60, 1L07, 1R64, 1R66, 1L10 and 1R70 — providing strong coverage of local and inter-regional passenger operations.

Engineering and test movements provided extra interest, including 37510 & 730030 on 5Q16, later followed by 37510 returning light engine on 0M57.
One of the standout moments came with the impressive Class 37 triple movement, featuring 37099, 37405 and 37419 on 0E37, offering classic diesel traction rarely seen in modern daily service.
To close the video, a bonus section was filmed onboard the return journey, passing Derby RTC packed with Class 37 locomotives, before ending at Leicester Station, where a heavily weathered Class 66 No. 66705 was seen light engine with 99002 visible in the background at Leicester L.I.P — a fitting finale to an outstanding day.
