🇺🇸 2 days at LAKENHEATH & MILDENHALL! Ft VISITING F-16s, x2 KC-46 PEGASUS, a C5 Super Galaxy + MORE!
We began at RAF Lakenheath on the morning of Friday 25th October, but sadly visibility was greatly reduced owing to thick fog that didn't lift throughout most of the morning. Lakenheath did launch a couple of based F15s, but as conditions weren't really improving we made the short trip across to RAF Mildenhall, and John's Farm, a delightful little camping spot on the perimeter of the airbase perfect to watch all the action from!
One of the many highlights was the arrival into RAF Mildenhall on Friday afternoon and departure on Saturday of no less than x4 USAF New Jersey F-16CMs from the 119th Fighter Squadron, part of the of the 177th Fighter Wing New Jersey Air National Guard based at Atlantic City ANG base in Atlantic City, New Jersey. These formed TREND11-14 flight from Aviano Air Base in Italy: TREND 11 87-0345, TREND 12 87-0230, TREND 13 87-0265, TREND 14 87-0236.
They were accompanied by x2 Boeing KC-46A Pegasus tankers: 21-46092 and 20-46080 and all pulled an overnighter at Mildenhall before departing in style! Having failed to land due to Fridays foggy conditions Saturday also saw Lockheed C-5M Super Galaxy 87-0031 make an impressive sight as its roars l after diverting to Prestwick. Great to catch up with lots of familiar faces and meet new ones over the weekend as well, so enjoy my take on the action from two aviation filled days in Suffolk!
