BRAND NEW TRAIN STATION! Ashley Down + 44871 & 45596 'Bahamas' on THE MANCUNIAN at SEVERN VALLEY!
Situated between Filton Abbey Wood and Stapleton Road, GWR's Ashley Down officially opened for business this morning, providing more sustainable travel options into Bristol city centre as well as to destinations across the region with connections to the wider rail network. The vibe and atmosphere at this brand new station was extremely positive and upbeat this morning with the excitement of something new bringing enthusiasts, passengers and residents out to have a look creating a community spirit which was very evident.
Two moves of interest here, firstly another pair of Class 20s, 20205 & 20007 on 5M82 Bristol Barton Hill to Wembley LMD with Chiltern DVT 82305, and Colas 66849 'Wylam Dilly' on the 6C22 Hinkley Sidings - Gloucester Yard Jn with coverage capturing the atmosphere during the first official morning at this brand new station site and great to see @southwalestrainspotting5090 again.
We then move up to Kidderminster on the Severn Valley Railway, where today the Railway Touring Companys ‘Mancunian’ railtour was arriving from Manchester Piccadilly, hauled by Black 5 44871 with WCRC 47746 'Chris Fudge 29.7.70 - 22.6.10' on the rear.
As the tour arrived and crossed the national rail system over to the Severn Valley Railway, a special charter train steam hauled by LMS 4-6-0 'Jubilee Class' locomotive No. 45596 Bahamas was awaiting to transfer passengers onwards to Bridgnorth. This splendidly restored locomotive is celebrating her 90th birthday this year and was turned out with red smokebox numeral and shed code backplates, as well as yellow cabside stripes, which in BR days denoted that the loco was not allowed south of Crewe after electrification.
The journey was a celebration of life of the late Steve Peach, also known as ‘Peachy’, who was a long serving member of the Bahamas Locomotive Society and funds from the tour were raised to support Maggies charity, the chosen charity of Steve Peach’s family.
Enjoy all the action from the afternoon at Kidderminster, with a comprehensive timetable of steam and diesel action and no less than 3 locomotives using the turntable at Kidderminster during a busy day of movements! | 28.09.2024
