RIDE BEHIND 46115 'SCOTS GUARDSMAN' at the SVR + a tour of the HydroFLEX Unit 799201! | 06.07.2025
A few changes along the way from the original proposed plan, firstly the main guest engine set to star at this was A1 Pacific 60163 âTornadoâ but she was busy out on the mainline working The Railway touring Company 'Waverley' tour today, so a very worthy substitute stepped up in the form of West Coast Railways LMS 46115 âScots Guardsmanâ, making a rare visit to a preserved line from its normal haunts in Carnforth and paired with the SVR BR maroon carriages. We enjoy a ride behind the locomotive up to Hampton Loade, for what should be one of the last times I visit where this operation is in place now until Flying Scotsman proudly reopens the full stretch to Bridgnorth later this month!
At Highly there was an opportunity to explore the Engine House and see visiting Narrow gauge locomotives 1877-built Leighton Buzzard Light Railway resident âChalonerâ (which recently starred at the Ffestiniog â200 Years On The Cobâ Gala - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeaMTJDHaSc) and 1902-built âHoly Warâ from the Bala Lake Railway, offering footplate rides outside.
Sadly the booked flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Lancaster Bomber was cancelled due to stormy weather, but this didnât deter with the visiting HydroFLEX unit 799201 open to the public, as well as the Railway 200 Exhibition Train Inspiration which we saw inside last weekend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWfaddit_-U open for itâs last time before it heads to Birmingham Moor Street and on to London, as well as other home fleet locomotives in action and a brief pathing stop by GBRF Class 66s 66768 'Yvonne Bradley' and 66305 'Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway' working the 0V37 Toton North Yard GBRF - Bristol East Depot DGL, so a fair bit going on! | 06.07.2025
