Colas Hired In 37402 & 37607 Work 1Q35 & 1Q37 PLPR 29/12 & 30/12/24
On sunday the 29th, I had planned to see 1Q35 'NMT' service, which was supposedly in the hands of 43274/303. I say 'NMT' because it is actually a PLPR train due to the NMT set having developments/ repairs at Derby. This meant the train ran most its route as 95mph max.
Upon setting off from Derby, 43274 failed after leaving Derby and was dragged back by 43303. The train was delayed by a few hours until eventually leaving again. I looked on Derby camera to see what '43s' were on it, but out of the station rolls 37402 with 607!
After seeing this, I immediately went home before heading out to catch the sunday working.
It was booked a 22 minuite stop and took at least 20 before leaving York. Unfortunately, 37402 was spilling oil down the side between Doncaster and Newcastle, so it was canceled at Newcastle instead of doing a circular and going to Darlington.
It wasn't looking good, 402 had failed and 607 supposedly had a speedo fault, but when they were booked to work 1Q23 Newcastle - Newcastle, it ran fine! A fitter must have done miracles!
Unfortunately, the train was heavily delayed on the return back to Derby due to a failed Voyager and other trains having priority over the 37s. This meant I couldn't chase it as planned.
Overall, I think it was a very rare occurrence that may never happen again, and I am happy with the outcome.
Firstly, see 37402 arrive at York, taking a booked stop.
Then, see 37402 depart York with some good thrash and tones, 607 powering up on the rear.
Finally, see 37402 stand at York before sending it towards Holgate, running 62 minutes late.
Thanks for watching!
