Description
The final Saturday of November proved extremely busy today with a mixture of Bristol City playing Plymouth Argyle at home, Bath Rugby at home to Exeter Chiefs and the inaugural weekend of the Bath Christmas Market, creating a manic day of packed overcrowded trains all over the GWR network heading to the area.

Between the crowds, The Railway Touring Company and Steam Dreams both had steam hauled railtours heading to the markets from London, with Black Five 44871 working the Railway Touring Company 1Z27 ‘Bristol & Bath Christmas Express’ London Paddington - Bristol Temple Meads with 47848 on the rear, and Steam Dreams 1Z60 ‘London to Bath Christmas Market’ London Victoria - Bath Spa headed by BR Class Standard 7P 70000 ‘Britannia’ with 57311 ‘The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ bringing up the rear.

We begin coverage at Bristol Temple Meads with a late platform change seeing West Coast Railways go anywhere Black Five 44871 arriving into Platform 15, before passengers disembark and while the 47 shunts the stock back to Bristol East Depot, 44871 is left to reverse to Bristol East Depot for turning and servicing.

Later in the afternoon we head up to a busy Bath Spa where 70000 ‘Britannia’ arrives, before departing with the ECS heading to Bristol East to start its turning manoeuvres.

The penultimate scenes show a chance meeting of both railtours! 44871 arrives into Platform 7 at Bristol to board passengers for the return 1Z28 Bristol Temple Meads - London Paddington, while 57311 ‘The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ pulls the ECS from Steam Dreams tour into Platform 12, allowing a short moment both steam hauled Railtours shared platforms at Temple Meads! 44871 is then seen departing, and shortly after 70000 ‘Britannia’ heads for Bristol East Depot, ready for servicing ahead of its return journey to London Victoria, before we finally see Britannia in fine fettle screaming through Keynsham under the cover of darkness with the empty coaching stock ready to return the railtour from Bath Spa to London. | 30.11.2024
