A look around the BOSCOMBE DOWN AVIATION COLLECTION! + MORE aviation history at OLD SARUM AIRFIELD!
The collection tells the story of flight & flight testing at Boscombe Down and the Wessex Area, with lots exhibits from the Empire Test Pilots School at the nearby MoD Boscombe Down. There were some great airframes on display, including English Electric P.1A prototype lightning WG763, the first prototype BAE Hawk T1 XX154, the first production BAE Tornado GR.1 ZA319 and the Hawker Sea Harrier XZ457 with the most kills from the Falklands Conflict, bringing down two Argentinian Skyhawks and two Delta Daggers! The Royal Flying Corps collection had an exceptional display of artefacts including uniforms, photographs, flying clothing and a wealth of personal records.
We were able to walking around the aircraft and other attractions at the collection, sit in and enter many of the cockpits and spent time engrossed in reading up on the history of many of the aircraft on display and engaging with the passionate volunteers who make this place well worth a visit! We also have a look at Old Sarum Airfield, where skydiving sessions were taking place throughout the afternoon. | 08.03.2025
