Description
Following the recent start to the 2025 season at the West Somerset Railway, things are hotting up with more guest locomotives arriving on the line ahead of their starring roles in the forthcoming Spring Steam Gala!

After Hudswell Clarke 1857 and GWR 2807 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ8nW1jkdUs&t=2971s today it was the turn of the new build GWR Saint 2999 ‘Lady of Legend’ usually found at the Didcot Railway Centre, with the locomotive joining the home fleet in operating normal services from April to August.

2999 was used on the 1pm Quantock Belle from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead and return, before running light engine this evening back to Minehead, where the locomotive will begin working regular timetabled services next week in the lead up to the Spring Gala.

We catch the locomotive leaving Westridge shed, shunting the Quantock Belle dining rake, and overcoming a spot of bother with the points at Bishops Lydeard, before heading up to Minehead, where the stock was shunted to make way for the 15.50 arrival with another gala starring GWR engine 2807!

As part of the Gala event, ‘Lady of Legend’ will be renamed to represent one of her long-lost classmates, with ‘Robin Hood’ looking the likely front runner for the identity swap, so that will be a great addition to the event! GWR 6695 from the Swindon & Cricklade Railway was also at Minehead following its recent arrival, and the DMU was also in action today so plenty happening during the afternoon!
