Description
We headed over to the Didcot Railway Centre on Sunday of the August Bank Holiday weekend where they were welcoming the return to service of their pioneering locomotive GWR 14XX No.1466!

The engine has returned to traffic after a major overhaul, and the work on this locomotive was extensive including comprehensive rebuilding on the boiler which took place at West Somerset Railways workshops at Williton, before she was moved by road to Didcot.

The official launch of the flagship engine took place on Saturday, and all weekend she was in steam as Didcot celebrated the iconic locomotives return to steam. She was in good company, joined by sister GWR 14XX No.1450 visiting from the Severn Valley Railway, two of only four survivors of the GWR 14XX 0-4-2 class, and SECR 01 Class No.65 from the Bluebell Railway was also in action, with three Auto Train shuttles running and alternating between both demonstration lines during the event.

6023 ‘King Edward II’ had returned after its trip to Derby Alstom works for the Greatest Gathering, and there was plenty to see with turntable demonstrations, dormant locos in the engine shed and more!
