š¬ THAT'S A WRAP! 37423 TURNS AND LEAVES THE WSR + Bishops Lydeard is PUT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN & MORE!
The station was transformed into the fictional āLoch Fordenā complete with modern signs, digital destination boards, and EPR Europhoenix 37423 (ex DRS āSpirit of the Lakesā) was also drafted in from the mainline, complete with branded GSR Highland Sleeper coaching stock used to film scenes around Bishops Lydeard.
The sequences in this video show 37423 with its stock, leaving Bishops Lydeard on Saturday 18th January, so that the rake could be turned ready to run out on the mainline on the Sunday. We catch up with the 37 at Norton Fitzwarren, where it sets back to navigate the Norton triangle, before arriving back at Bishops Lydeard and running round the stock.
Also included are some scenes showing resident Class 33 D6566 with a short tidy train freight carrying volunteers up towards Williton, while teams begin the reassembly of Bishops Lydeard following the dismantling of infrastructure on the station as part of the filming to transform it into the fictitious Loch Forden.
The final scenes show 37423 back out on the mainline heading the 5Z03 Bishops Lydeard - Yarmouth Carriage Holding Sidings, passing through Taunton, as well as DB 66090 'Maritime Intermodal - 6' + Aggregate liveried 66711 'Sence' top and tailed on the 6F67 Fairwood Jn - Hinksey Sidings on Sunday 19th January 2025
There was certainly a lot going on, all observed from accessible public land, and these big budget filming contracts are a fantastic testament to the versatility of the West Somerset Railway, who are no strangers to starring on the big screen with the famous scenes of the Beatles at Crowcombe Heathfield for āA Hard Days Nightā, David Lelandās āThe Land Girlsā and many more, and this level exposure will do them no end of good in showing the media industry they are very much open for business while also broadcasting to audiences what the railway is all about, and opens the doors to a very exciting future of possibilities!
