Description
Following the positioning move with x2 Class 37s, 5029 'Nunney Castle' and 57311 'The Institution of Mechanical Engineers' yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8Pu9EpLoqQ&t=169s today we saw 5029 'Nunney Castle' make its first foray into the west country in over 10 years following overhaul!

Newly named 57002 'Winston Churchill' brought the Chairmans train from London Paddington working the 1Z29 as far as Bristol Temple Meads where 57002 was changed over with 57311 'The Institution of Mechanical Engineers' and GWR 4073 Class 5029 ‘Nunney Castle’, making its inaugural debut run continuing the train south to Paignton & Kingswear.

We see the loco swap at Bristol, with the Chairman himself, mr Jeremy Hosking enjoying a leg stretch and interacting with enthusiasts on the platform, clearly sharing the passion as the Castle set back onto the luxury stock.

Following the departure from Bristol Temple Meads, we head down to Taunton, getting another sequence of the Castle leaving 40 Steps, and also a chance to observe the Class 37’s stabled at Taunton ready for their turn on the tour on Friday when it heads for Cornwall.

We got ahead of the train again, which made a pathed stop at Exeter, however this became longer, and word soon got round about either potential fire risks, combined with the fact that the line between Newton Abbot and Paignton got shut due to trespass, but whatever it was, resulted in the steam being held at Exeter for the incident to be cleared.

Thankfully the delayed train activated on maps, and we were back on track with the Nunney and Class 57 flying past Dawlish.

I then headed over to Churston, where 57311 appeared alone, heading the stock onwards to Kingswear. I figured they must have taken the Castle off at Paignton, and so the final sequence shows 5029 at Paignton Queen’s Park station on the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway being checked over and stabled for the night in the good Great Western company of 7827 ‘Lydham Manor’, ahead of another busy day tomorrow!
