Description
A good Saturday of railway action with some test trains returning to Derby RTC early on Saturday morning following later in the morning by the welcome sight of Castle Class 7029 ‘Clun Castle’ making a welcome return to the mainline following an intermediate overhaul at Tyseley Woking the ‘White Rose’ to Scarborough with a stop at Derby.

Now onto Toton, and ok I admit the title is a little bit of a play on words but it did happen! We see UK Railtours ‘Independence Day’ railtour which arrived behind GBRF 69001 ‘Mayflower’ with 57307 ‘Branch Line Society’ on the rear passing behind Asda in Long Eaton with a look at the old Clays Wagon Works bridge over the mainline. At Toton centre sidings a locomotive swap took place with 69001 ‘Mayflower’ coming off for DB 66104 before the train set off for Leeds where a further swap to Heavy Haul Rail Class 66s would take place. Not long after the railtour left, we have a look out across at Toton from Banks Road at locos on depot, including some of the blue liveried DB 66s which are set for export, as well as ESH rails first Class 60 60063 ‘Robert Leach’. It’s rumoured and reported this week we may see one of the biggest shake ups of the Class 60 fleet in years, and that DB Cargo has now sold all but one of its remaining Class 60 locomotives, with ESH Rail Services acquiring the vast majority. It will certainly be interesting to see what the deal means, which locomotives have changed hands, and why 60063 is leading the fleet's revival in its new colours. Not long after the departure of the tour, Battle of Britain Memorial Flights Supermarine Spitfire Mk. VB AB910 flew overhead while conducting flypasts over Long Eaton.

We finish with scenes at Derby showing 37512 'Thornaby Demon' dragging long term accident damaged 350115 to Litchurch Lane, Clun Castle returning to Birmingham and lastly the LSL Lakelander railtour returning to Nottingham in the dead of night with 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' and 47830, after passengers enjoyed a day up to Carlisle with Blue Peter and a pair of Class 20s! | 05.07.2026
