Description
BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 2010's
The Torbay Area
Paignton, Torquay, Dawlish & Dainton Tunnel
8th & 9th June 2013
During my visit to Devon in the Summer of 2013, I spent a few hours on the Western Mainline and The Paignton branch. Traction was mainly local stuff formed of DMU Classes 143, 150 and 153 running between Paignton and Exeter St Davids and Exmouth on the other side of the River Exe Estuary. Longer haul Cross Country services were in the hands of the 'Voyager' Class and also FGW HST sets serving London Paddington and the West Country to Plymouth and Penzance. On the 9th RTC ran the 'Royal Duchy' from Bristol Temple Meads to Par and return hauled by A4 Steam Locomotive 60009 'Union of South Africa'. In this video she is seen skirting along the sea wall at Dawlish, and later climbing up the 1/36 to 1/57 incline from Totnes to Dainton Tunnel on her return to Bristol. Thankfully the weather was magnificent apart from a little breeze now and again.
I hope this video takes you back to the period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer individually. If you have enjoyed this production, then please like and subscribe...
