Chennai to Tirupur By Coimbatore AC Express | High Speed Crossings & Overtakes and Food on The Train

In the second half of January 2020, rumours were high about a Tejas Express to be introduced between Coimbatore and Chennai in the month of March. As a trial, Southern Railways introduced this AC Express as a special train on 24th January 2020. It was to run in the proposed slot of the Tejas Express which would however be private operated.

The AC Express departed from Coimbatore at 5 AM in the morning and arrived at Chennai Central at 12.45 PM. In the return, the AC Express departed from Chennai at 2 PM and arrived at Coimbatore by 09.45 PM. The only halts were Katpadi, Salem, Erode, and Tirupur.

It has been wrongly mentioned that the train reached 5 minutes BT in the video. The train actually reached 10 minutes late, at 21.55 hrs.

The train, despite best efforts from Southern Railways, turned out a dud, as the cost of Executive Class was more than Rs. 2000/- while the cost of Chair Car was around Rs. 850/-. This was too high a fare for a train that took almost 8 hrs for the journey, especially when food was not included.

In early Feb, the train was announced to run till 31st of March but was cancelled by 29th of February itself.
