Eastleigh Station and Yard (Southampton)
10th December 2011
Another visit to one of my more favourite locations, just a few miles to the North of Southampton and very close to Southampton Airport.
At this location the main course of traction are EMU's of classes 444, 450 and DMU classes 159, and class 220 "Voyagers" making their way to and from the Midlands and Bournemouth and Poole. A few Class 66s are seen, either in EWS or Freightliner livery on Freightliner duties, and the Network Rail Cleaning unit (DR98927) was out doing her job around the area. Two steam specials are captured on film, firstly Railway Touring Company's "Bath Christmas Market" from Three Bridges to Bath and Bristol TM. Hauled by Steam Locomotive 34067 "Tangmere" with a rather scruffy looking "West Coast Railways" 37685 "Loch Arkaig" at the rear. Still a splendid sight and breaking up the usual flow of traffic. The second Rail Tour hauled by Steam Locomotive 70000 "Britannia" (Void of her nameplates, but in the livery shown, is as she appeared when the Locomotive first entered service) This tour run by Steam Dreams "The Cathedrals Express" ran from Southend to Winchester and terminated here at Eastleigh before returning later in the day. This time of year many Christmas Market specials ran , mostly Steam Haulage which are always welcome and spectacular to see. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually.. Many thanks to all subscribers and for the likes, also to all those viewers whom over the years, have kindly shown an interest and appreciation in my material. Two steam specials are recorded: one hauled by locomotive 34067 "Tangmere" and another by 70000 "Britannia," both operated by the Railway Touring Company. West Coast Railways and other operators are also represented in the footage.
