Revisiting 1990s Train Photography Locations in Dagenham
Today Dagenham Dock station is dominated by this large footbridge and passenger lift structure. The whole area was transformed by the building of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, or CTRL. Built in two phases, the second phase of the link would pass directly behind Dagenham Dock station.
The original station footbridge, seen here from the new footbridge, was good vantage point to photograph up trains on the line back in the 1990s and early 00s.
We now move further west to Renwick Road which crosses above the yards at Ripple Lane.
We will now move further east to a former foot crossing between Dagenham Dock and Rainham. Before the building of HS1 this was a level crossing. It was then converted to a foot crossing which led to a large footbridge over the HS1 line. This crossing has now been closed and there is no longer any access to the footbridge.
This video explores former train photography locations along the former London, Tilbury and Southend Line in Dagenham. It highlights changes to the area, including the new footbridge and passenger lift at Dagenham Dock station, which replaced the original structure used for photographing trains in the 1990s. The footage also covers nearby sites such as Renwick Road and a former foot crossing between Dagenham Dock and Rainham, now closed. Several railway stock types are identified, along with operators including British Railways, DB Schenker, and Freightliner.
