Description
BRITISH RAILWAYS IN THE 2010's
Mount Pleasant Crossing (Southampton)
5th May 2012
On yet a rather windy day, chasing a few special trains around the South, I planted myself a little exposed to the elements on the footbridge by Mount Pleasant Road Crossing, a few miles from the city of Southampton. A busy crossing where the gates could be in the lowered position for over 5 minutes at a time...No Exageration ! Class 444, 450 EMU's are seen on the London Waterloo's and 377's on the coastal Southampton to Brighton route. Other traction types are the 158's and "Voyagers".
The special event of the visit was to see the "Cruise Saver Express" from Southampton Western Docks to Edinburgh, with a pair of DRS 37s powering and DRS 47810 at the rear. 37608 and 37601 named Class 37-'Fifty' are seen heading past with the 47 'Peter Bath MBE 1927-2006' at the rear. This train was a short lived runner to connect with Cunard's Victoria cruises. At the start of the video we see EWS 66142 hauling an empty car train Northbound. Another piece of history for the books, I feel lucky to have captured on film...I hope this video takes you back to the period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually.. Many thanks to all subscribers and for the likes, also to all those viewers whom over the years, have kindly shown an interest and appreciation in my material.
