Northampton Station on 24th April 2025
On my way up to cover the "Great Central Railway's" Spring Diesel Gala I thought as this was on my route, I would call in here to see how it differed from Rugby Station, where I had visited a month before. This was a different time of day, but I still managed to witness several freightliners and Tesco trains, hauled by a variety of Locomotive classes. Freightliner Class 66 and DRS Class 66, A "Double Headed" Freightliner with two Freightliner Class 90 Locomotives (1 in the Orange Livery) and an Electric Locomotive DRS Class 88 on a South Bound "Tesco" Freightliner. Local West Coast services were in the hands of Electric Multiple Unit Class 350s running regularly between London Euston and Birmingham New Street, Pausing a while at Northampton for a crew change and pathing purposes. A solitary EMU Class 730 passed through South Bound in West Midland Railways Livery. During my session and the New Network Rail HST Measurement Train pulled in for an hour in the bay platform, which gave me a little time to film it, so that was a small bonus.
However after the small flurry of freight traffic, the line was temporarily closed due to a train failure to the North, it was being announced as a derailment, but with some research it was down to a breakdown near Rugby, this caused a bit of disruption for the next few hours, and put an ending to my filming, but I think I had enough material to produce a reasonable feature, hopefully for enjoyment.
