Loughborough Station and The Lord of the Isles Pullman on 26th April 2025
and "The Lord of the Isles Pullman"
While I was covering the "Great Central Railway's" Spring Diesel Gala I arose very early on the Saturday, to call in at the mainline station in Loughborough, to see "The Lord of the Isles Pullman" Rail Tour from Leicester to Inverness. Formed of the "Midland Pullman" HST set comprising of Power Cars 43059 and 43047. Having departed on time from Leicester at 06.11 running as 1Z41, the train paused at Loughborough to pick up and then departed for Inverness at 06.26 running via Chesterfield, York, Edinburgh, Ladybank, Perth and arrived in Inverness 2 minutes ahead of schedule at 19.41. The train looked splendid and pretty much like the original "Blue Pullman" as one could get.
Other traffic seen in this short visit were Class 222 DMUs on Sheffield/London St Pancras services and DMU Classes 170 on local trains ,also DMU Class 158 on the Nottingham to Norwich service. A pair of Class 66s trundled through LE making their way from Mountsorrel Sidings to Toton TMD. The iconic Brush Works right outside the station makes for a historic backdrop, if you can get it all in frame. This location is a real piece of Midland Architecture and hopefully will stay that way for many a year.
