GREAT DAY of ACTION at Taunton! LSL MIDLAND PULLMAN, NORTHERN BELLE, Test Trains + HST on the WSR!
We begin at the West Somerset Railway, where on every Wednesday throughout August, GW03 which is currently stored at Bishops Lydeard will be running on West Somerset Railway! We see the short formed 2+4 GWR HST set at Bishops Lydeard with power cars 43154 + 43155 head the 11.00am departure off to Minehead.
A short hop across to Taunton allowed for more HST action, with back to back luxury railtours and a rare COLAS move! We firstly see the Locomotive Services Group āTorbay Riviera Pullmanā with 43049 āNeville Hillā and 43046 āGeoff Drury 1930-1999 Steam Preservation and Computerised Track Recording Pioneerā heading past with a short driver change stop on the 1Z76 Chesterfield - Paignton, and not long after top and tailed WCRC 57315 and 57313 āScarborough Castleā were hot on the Midland Pullmans heels, working the 1Z80 āNorthern Belleā from Cardiff Central - Par.
We then capture the final HST move of interest, and a very irregular short formed 2+1 consist! Still in its ex LNER colours with colas stickers, 43251 worked down to St Blazey via Laira T&RSMD light engine earlier in the week to pick up 43257, proudly wearing the new colas colours from Laira T&RSMD, as well as retrieve a defective former motorail coach 96608 from St Blazey, and mission complete the set is seen passing on the 5Z43 heading St Blazey L.I.P back to Derby RTC.
I later ventured out to capture the return of both railtours at Taunton and as luck would have it, everything happened at once as the 1Z81 Northern Belle was waiting to depart platform 5 to return to Cardiff Central, the Midland Pullman raced past through Platform 4 with the return 1Z79 to Chesterfield, just as a second test train the 2Q08 950001 passed through platform 2 heading Cardiff Taff Vale Sidings - Derby RTC Serco via Bristol and Taunton!!
We finish with an ex Avanti Voyager 221115 heading to Penzance and the unique test unit 950001 heading back to Derby.
