D9000 - "The Deltic Reunion", 2nd January 1997
D9000 is first seen arriving at London Kings Cross to couple up to the stock, alongside its then modern counterpart, a snow covered class 91 electric locomotive.
A bit later Doncaster is passed where several locomotives including another Deltic, D9016 "Gordon Highlander" are seen in Carr yard. After a lot more running D9000 is seen at Hull Paragon station in Kingston-upon-Hull. Once D9000 had changed ends, a 156 passes on its way in to the station before D9000 starts up with a typical Deltic style rattle and cloud of exhaust.
On the way from Hull to York, 37886 with a train of civil engineering wagons is passed, then the train was tailed for some distance by a Bell JetRanger with a film crew.
At York I left the camera running to capture the sound of the engines running at idle. After D9000 departed the platform to head to the National Railway Museum, a London bound HST departed, with Inter City Swallow liveried power car 43106 leading. The rather drab dark blue of the rest of the set made it impossible to see the rear number. Its also worth mentioning how much better the original Paxman engines sound retrospectively when compared with the MTU lawnmower engines that replaced them. After the HST, EW&S tugboat 60048 passes with a load of steel girders on the freight only line.
Next, D9000 is seen inside the National Railway Museum facing the 1955 Deltic prototype.
Finally, back at the station a 47/7 is seen arriving with a parcel train and D9000 can be seen and heard waiting for departure.
