THE GREAT DORSET STEAM FAIR! Looking back at memories of the GDSF | PART 1 Highlights from 2019
Hosted in the fields of Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum in Dorset, this event brought together an enormous collection of steam, showmans, vintage, military and agricultural vehicles, classic cars, bikes, heavy haulage demonstrations and so more much, with fantastic food outlets, models and crafts and entertainment tents and even wartime trenches to explore! The main arena was constantly packed with steam tractions engines, and here’s a look back at my take on one of the last visits to the event when it went ahead pre COVID in 2019. These clips are just a small selection of some of the steam contingent from an enormous show that boasted a colossal collection of steam, showmans, heavy haulage, military and vintage vehicles, classic cars, bikes, agricultural and commercial vehicles, crafts tents, model tents, fairgrounds, stalls and way more, with a site so vast you needed a couple of days to properly explore and do the event justice!
The shows organiser Martin Oliver quoted a mixture of the COVID pandemic, rising costs to host the show, and other factors which have led to the land being up for sale, combined with a rise in anti social behaviour and security challenges which ultimately sealed this brilliant events downfall, and it was truly one of the greats, but do you think there’s a chance it could ever return?
