‘NUNNEY CASTLE’ + final day in traffic for 1219 Caledonia Works' at the WEST SOMERSET STEAM GALA

Highlights from the final day of the West Somerset Railway Autumn Steam Gala, with 5029 ‘Nunney Castle’, LSWR T3 563, GWR 813 as NCB Backworth 11 and 1219 ‘Caledonia Works’ all in action alongside the resident WSR mogul 9351, 7828 ‘Odney Manor’ and Crompton.

Sadly the weather had deteriorated as forecasted on Sunday with dreary, dull and damp conditions, but that didn’t deter, as the final day of comprehensive services got underway with stellar performances from the locomotives and Andrew Barclay 1219 ‘Caledonia Works’ enjoying its final day in traffic prior to withdrawal pending overhaul, while the crews and volunteers gave it their all to keep the show going and despite late running, all did their best to get the late timetables back on track as best they could, wrapping up what’s been a brilliant gala, and a great event to have back in the heritage calendar after a 6 year absence! | 19.10.2025
