Description
A great and varied day travelling up north for a few days, and we begin today with a stop at Doncaster on route to York, to have a look in the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum.

Here on the lower ground floor, visitors can explore Doncaster’s fascinating railway history.

This venue is home to the Rail Heritage Centre, featuring some of the Doncaster Grammar School Rail Collection, started in the 1930’s by the school’s Railway Society and the Doncaster Grammar School Railway Collection Trustee’s.

Alongside the objects on display are two Doncaster-built locomotives which take centre stage LNER V2 4771 ‘Green Arrow’ and GNR/LNER No. 251, both magnificent products of Doncaster Works and on loan as part of a partnership between Heritage Doncaster and the National Railway Museum. There were lots of historical displays and infographics and exhibits across the floors and it was a great museum and worth the visit.

We then head to Doncaster station and see the site of the Doncaster Works now operated by Wabtec who continue to conduct carriage refurbishment at the site, before taking a train up to York for the atmospheric after dark arrival of Locomotive Services sole surviving LNER A2 60532 ‘Blue Peter’ working a light engine move from Crewe H.S. - National Railway Museum York for overnight stabling in preparation for working tomorrows Steam Dreams ‘Edinburgh Christmas Market’ weekend railtour north to Scotland, and we conclude the evening with GBRF Class 60 60002 'Graham Farish 50th Anniversary 1970 - 2020' on the DRAX wagons. | 26.11.2025
