Setting off Finsbury Park making its way up through Doncaster into Cleethorpes this vintage train Heading 50008 and 50007 with 37901 on the rear was a sight to see. The class 50 is a very rare sight to Cleethorpes.
The Class 50 was built around the 1960s era and built to run West Coast Mainline.
Powered by a 2,700hp English Electric 16CSVT engine, the 50 locomotives were capable of 100 mph, but the fleet gained a reputation for poor reliability early on. Nicknamed "Hoovers" due to the sound of their air-intake system, the Class 50 fleet was gradually withdrawn in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
A vintage train journey is captured in this footage, featuring Class 50 locomotives 50008 and 50007, along with a Class 37 unit 37901. The route begins at Finsbury Park, passing through Doncaster and heading towards Cleethorpes. The Class 50 locomotives, rare in this area, were originally built for the West Coast Mainline in the 1960s and powered by a high-capacity engine. The video highlights the sight of these historic units in operation, though specific operator details are not provided in the record.
