Description
Doncaster Station on 11th June 2025
Part 1 of 2

Making my way recently to the NYMR, I called in at Doncaster to video the scene on the East Coast Mainline. Part 1 of this feature was captured from the Frenchgate Multi Storey Car Park. A little awkward at first to see over the parapet, but with a bit of elevation a good view of the station platforms and the lines to the North, plus a shot of the yard/works opposite. Captured on film were the Azuma Class 800/801 on their journeys to and from London King's Cross and the North to Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness. Northern Classes 170, 158, 150 and 333 are seen on more local services and the Class 220/221 "Voyagers" are on Cross Country and also some Grand Central trains. East Midlands were utilising the Class 170 too between Peterborough and Doncaster and Trans Pennine services were in the hands of the Class 185. Hull Trains and Grand Central services were seen with Class 802 and the Class 180. The highlight for me were the LNER services between London, Leeds or York and return formed of Class 91 and DVT 82's at the opposite ends, a blast from the recent past. Locomotive 91111 "For the Fallen" in absolute stunning Commemorative war heroes livery. Some Class 66 Locomotives are seen on freight passing through the station and the Class 803 Lumo in full Blue livery looks fabulous as they pass by at speed. At the end of part 2 a Class 69 (69006)is seen on the 08.15 Middleton Towers to Monk Bretton Redfearns Freight. This was all captured during the midday period between 11.00 and 15.00. The second part of the feature is as seen from the Northern end of the station platforms. How this location has altered with traction types since my last visit in 1999.
