"The Skirl o'the Bagpipes II" - 16th March 1996

On 16th March 1996 Hertfordshire Railtours ran "The Skirl o'the Bagpipes II" railtour from London Kings Cross to Aberdeen and back. This was the second Crompton railtour to venture far in to Scotland, the year before the same pair had ventured to Inverness. The train left Kings Cross just after midnight and was booked to be back there before 21:00 that evening. In true railtour fashion, that was not achieved! What was achieved was a monster amount of Crompton mileage in one day, 1,066 miles if you did the whole tour!

The train is seen at Kings Cross before departure, at Edinburgh Waverley, crossing the Forth Bridge and at Aberdeen on the outbound. On the return the train is seen passing various locations between Aberdeen and Dundee, not sure where to be honest. If someone can enlighten me in the comments I'll update the video. Toward the end of my camera battery the train pauses at Berwick-upon-Tweed to let a London bound train pass. At that point my camera battery died. "The End".

It was a good day out, though not without drama. On the return at some point between Edinburgh & Berwick 33116 suffered a flashover of No.3 traction motor which in turn caused a significant loss of time.
