The Class 360 Desiro Electric Multiple Units, Great Eastern Finale and Midland Mainline Future
In the early 2000s First Great Eastern ordered 21 four-car sets to replace its slam-door Class 312 EMUs. Classified as Class 360/1 the first unit entered service in August of 2003.
They were primarily used on Great Eastern Main Line working services between London Liverpool Street to Clacton, Colchester Town, Walton-on-the-Naze and Ipswich.
Between 2020/2021 they were replaced by new Class 720 units and the entire fleet was moved to East Midlands Railway (EMR). They were modified to operate at 110 mph and can now be found operating services along the Midland Main Line between London St Pancras to Corby.
This video features the Class 360 Desiro electric multiple units, originally built by Siemens for First Great Eastern. From 2020 to 2021, they were replaced by Class 720 units and transferred to East Midlands Railway (EMR), where they were modified for higher speeds and now operate on the Midland Main Line between London St Pancras and Corby.
