GWR 2857 at Kidderminster | Unusual Shunting Move on the SVR
this scene shows GWR 2800 Class No. 2857 being shunted in an unexpected consist. Only half of the loco is visible, but it’s a striking moment — especially with two Class 20s in the mix, being prepared for a mainline run out of Tyseley.
The 2800 Class were rugged heavy-freight locomotives designed by George Churchward for the Great Western Railway. The first 84 were built between 1903 and 1919, with another 83 constructed between 1938 and 1942 — a remarkable production span for a design that saw few changes over nearly 40 years.
This brief glimpse showcases the fascinating variety of traction that makes the SVR such a unique and engaging heritage railway.
