Description
RAILWAYS of NEW ZEALAND in 2010
PART 1 The South Island
Featuring
Christchurch and a trip on the "Tranzalpine" to Moana,
Tram System of Christchurch
Rolleston Station and Springfield
A visit to see the "Coastal Pacific" at Kaikoura Station
February 2010

In this two part feature, In the first episode we visit the South Island around Christchurch in February 2010, shortly prior to the catastrophic earthquake that hit the area. We rode on the tram system, which some clips have been included and the famous "Tranzalpine" Express from Christchurch as far as Moana. The train continued onto Greymouth, but we waited for it's return before boarding again. Several shots are included along the route, such as at Springfield, where we crossed with a heavy Coal train. We rode on the famous old tram system in Christchurch and caught a glimpse of the Coastal Pacific train at Kaikoura (and a few Whales) before heading to the North Island. Onto part two of this feature where we visited the city of Auckland , where at Britomart Station (Now the main station in Auckland) I saw many Morning departures, including The "Northern Explorer" to Wellington in the far South of the Island, both Locomotive hauled and Multiple Unit Hauled trains were seen. We later went out on the system to a place by the name of Papakura, just to see the various railway activity in the area. I did manage to capture on video all 3 of the long distance trains that the country has to offer. The "Northern Explorer" which runs between Auckland and Wellington, stopping at Palmerston North, Ohakune, National Park and Hamilton, which I filmed in Auckland, then The "Coastal Pacific" train which operates between the delightful port of Picton - the gateway to the beautiful Marlborough Sounds - to Kaikoura - the home of whale watching and onto Christchurch and this I captured on video at Kaikoura and finally The "Tranzalpine" from Christchurch to Greymouth (probably the most scenic of the three) captured on film at Christchurch, Rolleston and along the route to Moana as we rode on it. It is well worth a further exploration into this countries railway system and if you can get a chance to visit New Zealand. do experience at least one of these beautiful and special scenic trains. I do hope this video entertains and evokes old fond memories of the Railway Scene from New Zealand and the era. I hope you enjoy the series, and if you are familiar with any of the areas featured, feel free to comment and if you do like the clip please subscribe and Like.
This feature is in memory of my Dear Sister, who sadly passed away, shortly after our visit to this beautiful country.
