Nuneaton Station
4th March 2013
It is a while since I last visited this location, over 30 years and what a transformation from the station I knew then. Now the station is split into two levels, The upper part serving the Birmingham and route towards Leicester, using a new flyover which goes over the WCML to the North of the station, and the Lower level, what seems to be the original part of the old station, serving the West Coast Mainline and Trent Valley Lines, also a new connection to Coventry Arena. (Not too sure when this service opened, even if it had in 2013). The WCML services being operated by 'Virgin' Class 390 "Pendolino's" to/from London Euston and the North, seen in this video flying through at high speed and Class 220 "Voyager's" on Cross Country services from various places in the North and South. Cross Country were also utilising DMU Class 170 units and are captured on film as well are The London Midland EMU Class 350, which operated from London Euston to Stafford, Crewe and other parts of the Midlands. This is also, as can be seen in this video that Nuneaton is a hub for Freight activity, with as seen on this visit Locomotives of Class 66, 70 and even a DRS Class 47 (Being Towed) and different companies such as DRS, EWS and Freightliner. What are now the 'Tesco' Trains were then 'Stobart Rail' make an appearance too. The couple of hours that I was there was a very fruitful visit and I will need to study this area much more. I am not sure whether this location has suffered too much at the hands of decline over the many years. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually.. Many thanks to all subscribers and for the likes, also to all those viewers whom over the years, have kindly shown an interest and appreciation in my material.
