In order to capture on video two Steam Specials on this date I chose the long footbridge which spans the entire junction just West of the Station in Woking. Several 159's are seen on both Up and Down services and plenty of EMU action on the Mainline to Basingstoke/Southampton and Portsmouth (Direct) route via Guildford is seen. In addition the first Steam Special was RTC's 'Dorset Coast Express' running from London Victoria to Weymouth, with a pristine looking 34067 'Tangmere' at the train's head. Unfortunately this trains return later in the day was cancelled as Locomotive 4464 'Bittern' sadly failed at Dorchester. The second Special was Steam Dreams' The Cathedrals Express from Northampton to Eastleigh, with Steam Locomotive 60163 'Tornado' in full charge. Near the start of the video a pair of EWS Class 66's (66221 + 66165) passes under the footbridge with a short Stone/Ballast train followed shortly afterwards by a Network Rail Class 57 (LE) (57312). At least the weather was quite Summer like for a change. Later the same day I made my way to Micheldever for the return workings of the 'Specials', which I have decided to make as a separate feature. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories.
