Freight Power on the WCML! “UNBELIEVABLE” Double 90s, RHTT & Fast Passing Trains — Nuneaton Part 1
Welcome back to Trains & Freight Diaries, and today we return to the ever-busy Nuneaton Station for a packed afternoon of movement along the iconic West Coast Main Line.
This recording forms Part 1 of a four-part mini-series, capturing late-autumn traffic during one of the most atmospheric times of the railway calendar — where high-speed express services meet heavy freight, leaf-fall conditions and the unmistakable roar of the seasonal RHTT.
🚂 FREIGHT MOVEMENTS
The session opened with several strong freight flows, including multiple GBRf Class 66s:
• 66743 — 6G16
• 66756 — 6M26
A major highlight was the thunderous pass of Class 90 pairing 90049 + 90005, flying through Platform 2 on intermodal working 4M63 — a rare and exciting sight.
Seasonal engineering was represented by the Rail Head Treatment Train, running as 3J01, top-and-tailed by a mixed-operator consist:
66169 (DB Cargo) & 66706 (GBRf) — both wearing an authentic coating of autumn rail grime.
Other freight workings featured included:

• 66542 — 4Z73
• 66311 — 4L13
• 66117 — 6V72
• 66185 — 6V92
• 66192 — 4O21
The session closed in dramatic fashion with 66421 on 4M49, storming through Nuneaton running approximately 440 minutes late — a standout moment of the day. Due to Rail damage up north,

Passenger operations were just as busy, led by Avanti West Coast’s Pendolino fleet:
