The station and most trains that serve the station are operated by Southeastern, with some services also operated by Thameslink. It is in Travelcard Zone 5.
The station, initially consisting of two platforms, opened in November 1858.(See: "London Chatham and Dover Railway").
Electric trains, the first in Kent, began running on the Southern Railway's third rail system between London, Bromley South and Orpington in July 1925.
The last passenger steam trains to serve Bromley South did so in 1959, when lines to the Kent Coast were third rail electrified.
Between 1986 and 1999, locomotive hauled trains between the Kent Coast, the West Midlands, the North West and (for a time) Scotland called at Bromley South.
