Locations between Westbury and Bath
Along the route following the River Avon and Canal
22nd & 23rd April 2013
Spring had finally arrived, so over the two days I was down in Wiltshire, I decided to concentrate on the section of railway between Westbury , Hawkeridge junction and along the route, where the line diverges towards Melksham, Chippenham and Swindon, at Bradford South Junction, heading further along to the very pretty station of Bradford-on-Avon. Then to Claverton Down and the stunning Dundas Aqueduct, which carries the Kennet and Avon Canal over the River Avon and railway. A very scenic area and a beautiful railway journey between Westbury and Bathampton Junction, where the line joins the mainline from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads. Over the two days I visited, the weather remained very spring like, and I captured on film DMU Classes 150, 158 and 159on their respective passenger duties. Steam Locomotive 34067 'Tangmere' and her support coach passing through Bradford-on-Avon Station. Several interesting freight trains passed by in the hands of DRS Class 66's and a Hanson Class 59 seen at Bradford South Junction. At Hawkeridge Junction I witnessed a rare working of the London Paddington to Bristol via Trowbridge late afternoon HST service, which ran quite briefly during this year. I also caught a glimpse of trains coming off the mainline from Pewsey (Berks & Hants route) with the now demolished famous tall chimney at the Cement works nearby.
I hope this video takes you back to the period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, it is not always possible to answer each one, but If you have enjoyed this production, then please like and subscribe...
