THE YORKSHIRE COASTAL PULLMAN with 43058 + 43049! PLUS exploring the York NATIONAL RAILWAY MUSEUM!
The tour originated at Paignton forming the 1Z32, and we join at Bridgwater for a cracking run up through Bristol towards Derby, Belper, Chesterfield and on towards Rotherham and Swinton with some pathing stops along the way, arriving into York shortly before 13.00. We see the HST continue its journey to Scarborough, while we opted to spend a good 4 hours exploring York.
The NRM is currently undergoing a major redevelopment, so some areas like the Station Hall where the royal carriages are housed were off limits, but the Great Hall and was packed with grand locomotives telling the story of railway history and the Warehouse was a treasure trove of railwayana, easily somewhere you could lose yourself all day! After a stint on public display, LNER A3 Pacific 60103 âFlying Scotsmanâ is now back outside, being prepared for her forthcoming trip to Didcot, having swapped with Deltic D9002 âKing's Own Yorkshire Light Infantryâ.
After a good look around for a couple of hours there was just enough time to have a wonder into York, through the shambles with a visit the fantastic Monk Bar Model Shop, before heading back to the Station.
We take a slightly different route home through Doncaster before retracing our steps back towards Derby and Bristol and returning just after 22.30!
