Highlights from the final days of the West Somerset Railway Summer Diesel Gala.

This video features a mix of classic traction from western region hydraulics to diesel electric locos. The gala expressed an intensive timetable with many miles to be had behind the locos. With 2 days still still on offer to enjoy pure heritage diesel traction before the gala wrapped up for another year. The Saturday was chosen to ride the locos due to the dismal weather forecast, with a ride behind 50015 'Valiant' and D1015 'Western Champion' being the main aim.

On the Sunday, saw the introduction of steam with 2999 'Lady of Legend' hauling a private charter alongside the remaining diagrammed visiting diesel locos before returning home after they're mini break at the seaside. A highlight from the Sunday would prove to be D1015 working the 1415 ex Minehead with load 7 and a pair of class 33s, D6575/D6566 dead in tow equating to load 13. With the Western working for longer than usual due to increased load it was good to see it work hard from the 10mph slack at Minehead crossing. 50015 would work the final trip from Minehead, complete with bucket and spade!

Catching up with the visiting locos once more on the Monday, this time preparing to return home with the gala finished the day before. RailAdventure 43 powercars form a convoy with 45108, 50015 and D1015 trailing the formation back to Kidderminster and onwards to Bury at the East Lancashire Railway. Also in action was stored ex GWR 43155 and 43154 on a shakedown run before leaving the railway.
