Description
After almost 2 weeks of grey dreary weather, the sun finally made an appearance today, providing fantastic conditions and the perfect excuse to film a couple of ‘out of the ordinary’ movements along the West Somerset Railway.

England’s longest standard gauge heritage railway officially finished it’s 2024 running season at the beginning of November, and preparations are now underway for the Pantomime, Christmas Market and Bad Santa seasonal events, but today had a couple of interesting movements while the railway was officially closed.

Firstly, the stored ex GWR HST Castle 2 + 4 set with power cars 43154 and 43155 which, after some trouble starting, were moved from Westridge at Bishops Lydeard along the full length of the line to Minehead, where the HST set will spend the winter months, freeing up siding space needed at Bishops Lydeard for the Christmas trains. We see the HST leaving Bishops Lydeard, and taking up residency at Minehead in the afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, we see the home fleet GWR Manor 7828 ‘Odney Manor’ aptly renamed after the 'Norton Manor, 40 Commando' Royal Marine camp in honour of Armistice Day, conducting a first for standard gauge preservation, running a train the full length of the line while trialing a new batch of ovoids/ eco coal! The ECS is seen looking resplendent passing through Blue Anchor in the late afternoon sunshine, with the locomotive performing well as it passed non stop during the trials. | 11.11.2024
