Description
PRESERVED RAILWAYS IN THE 2010's
Great Central Railway Weekend Gala 2013
2nd + 3rd March 2013
PART 1 of 2: Part 1 filmed entirely on 2nd March 2013
WARNING: May contain a Steam Locomotive !
One of my favourite preserved railways, is the Great Central Railway, which runs from Loughborough, where the main depot is located, and South to Leicester North. The Great Central Railway in England was formed when the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway changed its name in 1897, anticipating the opening in 1899 of its London Extension. On 1 January 1923, the company was grouped into the London and North Eastern Railway. (courtesy of Wikipedia) This is the only 'Double Tracked' preserved railway in the UK and will soon be upgraded to higher speed running. Upon my visit during the two days, I witnessed Locomotives D1705, formerly TOPS: 47117 named 'SPARROWHAWK' The all over Yellow liveried 37198 and Class 31 D5830 (TOPS: 31297, 31463, 31563), also a Class 27 was represented with Locomotive D5401 (TOPS: 27056) which saw service on the Glasgow/Edinburgh 'Push/Pull' services during the 1980s. 'Peak' Locomotive D123 without her nameplate 'Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry' (TOPS: 45125) was on duty both days. Class 20 D8098 (TOPS: 20098) puts in some appearances throughout the video too as well as a heritage Class 127 DMU, which was running shuttles both days and one steam Locomotive LMS 8F 48624 looking absolutely superb in the glorious sunshine. In this video I manage to Locate myself in over six different locations for a bit of variety, so I hope you enjoy the video. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually..
