Maindee West Junction (Newport, Gwent)
on 3rd September 2010
Part 1 of 2
On this visit to South Wales I drove to a great location I had visited many times before, and captured some interesting trains passing by and crossing a good vantage point of the River Usk. I have split the feature into two parts as I acquired quite a lot of footage on this very successful visit. Part one offers Plenty of HSTs that were still in service to and from London Paddington, Cardiff and Swansea. Several types of DMU classes were seen both in Arriva and Cross Country Liveries, also the First Great Western Livery. Classes 170, 175, 150 and 158. These services were running to many different destinations around the South West and were also taking the branch towards Abergavenny and Hereford. Several EWS Class 66 Locomotives on freight passed by and as Llanwern Steelworks is only around the corner I was bound to see more traffic here. The most interesting service were the very "Time Limited" Cardiff to Weymouth and return passenger trains "Top n Tailed" by EWS Class 67 Locomotives and one service with a Class 66 instead of the scheduled 67 with a 67 on the opposite end of the short rake of coaching stock. How to travel to the beach in style eh and comfort ?. Part 1 covers the time period from 2.00 PM to 4.00 PM. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually.. Many thanks to all subscribers and for the likes, also to all those viewers whom over the years, have kindly shown an interest and appreciation in my material.
