BR in the 2010s Brookwood (Surrey) and Basingstoke Stations on 13th June 2013 + The Swanage Belle
Brookwood (Surrey) and Basingstoke Stations
13th June 2013
On this fine day, in the morning I called in at Brookwood Station, the first station down the line from Woking, on the Southampton route, just after the morning 'Peak' Period to see the 'Swanage Belle' from London Victoria, being hauled by LMS Steam Locomotive Stanier Class 5, (Affectionally known as a 'Black 5') 44932, making her way to the Swanage Railway in Dorset. On the mainline, the main course of traction were EMU's of classes 444, 450 and DMU classes 159, on their morning services in and out of London Waterloo. Just a mile further down the line from Brookwood Station is Pirbright Junction where the Farnham and Alton line branches off and the 'Up' line crosses over the LSWR Mainlines by means of a viaduct. An EWS Class 66 (66238) passes by on an 'Up' Long Welded Rail Train from Eastleigh Yard. Later that same evening I visited Basingstoke Station and more or less the same form of electric and diesel traction was witnessed apart from the addition of class 220 "Voyagers" making their way to and from the Midlands and Bournemouth and Poole. A few Class 66s are seen, either in EWS or Freightliner livery on Freightliner duties, plus a Class 70 on a working to Southampton. Naturally 'Black 5' 44932 returns with the 'Up' train from Swanage to London Victoria, and is seen making a grand departure from the station, seen from the carpark next to the junction. At this time the Basingstoke to Reading services were being ran with DMU 150001, being the first class 150 into service years back. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories.
