Description
The final instalment from this years ‘Legends of Steam’ spring gala at the East Lancashire Railway, and what a difference a day made! The sun was out and so were the crowds for the Saturday at East Lancashire Railway’s premier gala event, and the double header of Britannia leading Sir Nigel Gresley was blessed with sunshine for a memorable run as the sound of an A4 pacific and a Britannia pacific working along the line rang out, in contrast to the very wet ride over in part 1! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbxC66B8B5w

I caught the double header as first as far as Irwell Vale, a small countryside halt set in the stunning Lancashire countryside, before catching ‘Britannia’ and ‘Sir Nigel Gresley’ returning in top and tail formation.

We then see some of the afternoons movements around Bury Bolton Street station as well as taking a look in the Bury Transport Museum, packed with interesting exhibits including vintage vehicles, locomotives, models and more. Rain returned in the afternoon but it didn't deter from a fantastic couple of days at the East Lancs! | 16.03.2024
