After moving on from Maindee West Junction, I called in on the station in the town. Here I spent just an hour before returning home, but again there were plenty of HSTs that were still in service to and from London Paddington, Cardiff and Swansea. Several types of DMU classes ware seen, both in Arriva and Cross Country Liveries, also the First Great Western Livery. Classes 170, 175, 150 and 158 were represented.. These services were running to many different destinations around Wales, including Milford Haven, Holyhead and other destinations. Several EWS Class 66 Locomotives on freight passed by and an EWS Class 60 hauling a train of Murco Oil. An HST unfortunately "Snookered" a shot of the "Top n Tail" Class 67s, only a glimpse of the rear Locomotive is seen...Can't win them all ! Note that the area is undergoing extensive re signalling, which began in June of that year, plus electrification as far as Cardiff, but took 10 years to complete due to certain delays and a change of plan. This was all part of the Great Western Mainline Upgrade scheme. The new signals were covered over, until they became live. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories.
