Channel: Stoat13

Description
A couple of bits of Isle of Wight railway history, captured during a day trip on 24th July 2017. The only train running appeared to be worked by former London Underground 1938 set 004 (vehicles 124+224) of BR class 483 and is seen at Sandown and Ryde Esplanade. This set was originally delivered to London Transport in October 1939. After withdrawal from London Underground use it was sold to British Rail Network Southeast for use on the Isle of Wight to replace the former London Electric Railway Standard stock - known as "1923 stock" - that had run on the Island since 1967. The 483s replaced this stock during the sumer of 1989. Set 004 itself was withdrawn from use in 2019 - at the time the unit was around eighty years old - and is currently used as a cafe at Holliers Park, Arreton on the Isle of Wight.

The 1938 stock was replaced with refurbished ex-London Underground D78 Stock during 2021.
