St Denys (Horseshoe Bridge) (Southampton)
9th July 2012
A few miles to the North of Southampton is the junction station at St Denys, and just before the station is the famous 'Horseshoe' bridge, popular to the railway photographer. I arrived at the location in the early evening to witness the returning Cathedrals Express from Weymouth to London Waterloo with Steam Locomotive 35028 'Clan Line' in charge. During the period I was there several Freightliners passed by under the bridge, hauled by either EWS or Freightliner Class 66 Locomotives. EMU's of class 444, 450 and DMU classes 159/158 and "Voyagers" class 220s are seen making their way to and from the Midlands, Bournemouth and Poole and the services coming off the Fareham line. The River Itchen is seen and makes a lovely backdrop to the location. I hope the video takes you back to this period with fond memories.
