Disastrous Day for Britannia and the Cumbrian Mountaineer 08 April 2026

Description
April 8th should have been Britannia's day with the Cumbrian Mountaineer steam hauled without diesel support Crewe to Carlisle. Sadly disaster struck when it got to Oxenholme suffering a hot big end and had to be taken off the charter. Earlier 37409 had been sent from Crewe to Upperby to perform the shunting moves with the Mountaineer at Carlisle. It was quickly despatched back to Oxenholme and took the charter forward.
In an on time departure, 37409 headed south from Carlisle with the charter while LSL had despatched a pair of Class 20s to Oxenholme to rescue Britannia.
Sadly disaster struck a second time when low oil pressure meant 37409 came to a stop on the main line just north of Tebay. Main line blocked with four passenger trains held at Shap Harrisons Siding, Penrith, Carlisle and Lockerbie! The 20s were called to the rescue, first taking the charter into Tebay loop to allow the line to be cleared and later took it on to Crewe. Britannia would be rescued on 9th!

Additional views of the new carriage shed taking place at Upperby and something strange happening with the Varamis 321s.
Recorded at Wreay, Penrith, Upperby Depot and Carlisle station.
