Worting Junction (Basingstoke) + Millbrook (Southampton)
15th October 2011
Yet another short visit to a popular location of mine, to the West of Basingstoke, Worting Junction, where the line separates/joins to and from Southampton, Bournemouth and Weymouth with the Salisbury, Yeovil and Exeter route on the Southern Region and also Millbrook Station just west of Southampton Station, where trains diverge for the Bournemouth line and Salisbury route.
My visit was to catch "The Swanage Belle" railtour from London Euston to Swanage and return to Kensington Olympia, run by The Railway Touring Company (RYTC). Hauled by Steam Locomotive 70013 "Oliver Cromwell" on the outward leg and returning with Steam Locomotive 34067 "Tangmere". The main course of traction for regular passenger services were in the hands of EMU's of class 444, 450 and DMU classes 159 and "Voyagers" class 220/221. At Millbrook a Class 150 and a Class 158 are seen coming/going to and from the Salisbury route A couple of freightliners are witnessed in the video, hauled by "Freightliner" liveried class 66 and EWS Class 66 locomotives. Apart from the "Special" Steam excursion every thing else was just a normal day back in 2011. A quick night shot at Micheldever of the steam rail tour passing through at speed is seen at the end of this video. I hope this video takes you back to the period with fond memories. Feel free to comment, good or bad, all comments are read, and greatly appreciated, but it is not always possible to answer each individually.. Many thanks to all subscribers and for the likes, also to all those viewers whom over the years, have kindly shown an interest and appreciation in my material.
