Description
Join us for two days of action filmed at Swindon Station, capturing a mix of freight, light engine movements and a truly historic moment for the Great Western Railway HST “Castle” sets.

Over yesterday and today we see Colas Rail 70811 working light engine on the 0M50 Westbury – Bescot diagram. The locomotive passes through Swindon on its northbound journey, providing some great close-up footage of the Class 70 at work.

Today also brought something very special. With the GWR Castle Class HST sets now off lease following their final day in traffic in Devon & Cornwall on Saturday 13th December, we were lucky enough to witness an empty coaching stock move taking these iconic trains for storage at Ely Papworth Sidings.

In an unforgettable scene, with no obvious operational reason as the driver had a proceed aspect, the train made an impromptu stop on the middle road at Swindon – almost like one final photoshoot. The legendary powercars 43004 and 43042, working on load 8, paused briefly allowing crowds to grab their final photographs before gently easing away for the last time. Nearly 50 years of HST service across the Western region comes to a close, and we were there to capture it.
