More Power Cars leave Laira! 37407 takes 43188 + 43189 to Ely + 43198, 43098 & 43097 on a WCRC move!
On Tuesday 20th, 37407 ‘Blackpool Tower’ returned woking the 0E43 Laira T & R.S.M.D. - Ely Papworth Sidings taking off lease ex GWR power cars 43188 ex ‘Newport Castle’ + 43189 ex ‘Launceston Castle’. In less than favourable conditions, the consist arrived at Taunton, waiting time until the XC Manchester Service had passed, before proceeding giving a great opportunity to have a last close look at these 43s as they headed for Ely and a new future.
Freightliner 66561 is also seen having been sent down from Westbury in the morning, clearing out Fairwater Yard taking a set of High Output Ballast Cleaner wagons working 6Z20 Fairwater Yard - Hinksey Sidings. The inbound IET obscured the 66 departure but in a legendary move by the signaller, we see the 66 with the HOBC and the 37 Power Car move departing Taunton simultaneously into the rain!
Wednesday saw the great clear out of Laira continue, with no less then x3 Power Cars working to Totnes, where they were scheduled to pick up the West Coast Railway Company Mk1 coaching stock, used during last years Diesel Gala https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ttRN278Ck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Au1j-c1sfSM the Polar Express Christmas Season, and the recent Winter Steam Gala https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eolpWSNVIK8&t=1s. 43198 ex ‘Driver Stan Martin 25 June 1950 - 6 November 2004 / Driver Brian Cooper 15 June 1947 - 5 October 1999’, 43098 ex ‘Walton Castle’ and 43097 ex 'Castle Drogo' arrived at Tontnes but the points had failed at the South Devon Railway and so the move continued with all 3 Power Cars leaving the stock behind working 0Z43 Totnes - Carnforth Steamtown.
To my knowledge, this leaves 43088, 43092, 43093 and 43156 remaining at Laira, at least for the time being!
