This feature focuses on the English Electric Type 3 Locomotive Class 37, built at Vulcun Foundry in Newton-Le-Willows or the Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn Co in Darlington, between 1960 and 1965, soon gained popularity with enthusiasts, due to the noise these Locomotives made on starting away. Seen all over the country, working all types of trains, from Cornish China Clay to Freightliners and Passenger services in the far North of Scotland. Fitted with English Electric Engines, Generators and Traction Motors, they are true EE through and through. Six Locomotives were fitted with Mirrlees Engines in the mid 1980s. Many of the class were fitted with steam boilers for train heat.
